Invisalign FAQs

Why must you take your Invisalign braces out to eat and drink?
You must take your Invisalign aligners out to eat and drink anything other than water because otherwise you risk staining your braces or chewing through them! Invisalign is made of a thin, flexible plastic so there is a risk of breaking them if you eat with them in. Staining your clear braces will look and taste quite disgusting too! You’ll soon get into the habit of quickly taking your braces out before eating and drinking.
What happens if I damage or lose Invisalign aligners?
Phone us at the dental surgery in Shepperton and we will assess whether you should move on to the next set of aligners in the series or wear the aligners that came previously. For this reason, we suggest not throwing your Invisalign aligners away until you have completed treatment.
How long does it take to straighten teeth with Invisalign?
This depends upon the complexity of your case and is of course different for each patient. We can answer this question more accurately after looking at your teeth. As a guide, a patient with minor teeth straightening needs may take between 3 and 9 months. If your case is more severe, you may take 12 to 18 months of wearing Invisalign braces. Most patients complete their treatment within 12 months.
